ONA works to maintain the quality of our environment, including fresh water supplies, stormwater drainage, beaches, pollution and the Naples Bay and coastal areas. To learn more or join in, please contact the Committee Chair at email@example.com
Our beaches: This complex issue involves the public beaches, the adjacent City controlled parking, our support of tourism, renourishment of beaches with fresh sand, and the City/County interactions.
Potable water: We are working with the City to
understand the plans to ensure that potable water supplies will be
available for the foreseeable future. Naples pumps its water supplies
from aquifers susceptible to pollution from overlying development and
saltwater intrusion. More significantly Naples' property owners use over
65% of the potable water supply for landscaping irrigation. Unless
something changes we may not have adequate potable water supplies
within 20 years.
Reclaimed water: The City has begun a reclaimed
water system for use in irrigation landscapes that should be extended
throughout the City. There are a number of challenges currently
preventing this, and we are working with the City to understand and
remove the obstacles to having every property served by reclaimed water
for landscaping use.
Stormwater: This issue impacts every household, especially during our wetter seasons. We are working with the City while they plan for the removal of the beach outfalls and their replacement with pumping stations and deepwater discharge pipes. We also monitor the impact of development on the City’s stormwater infrastructure and the several lakes within our neighborhood.
Please join us in these efforts. We look forward to hearing from you at firstname.lastname@example.org whenever you have a concern, question or suggestion about environmental issues.
NOTE: as of November, 2017, we do not have volunteers to carry this work forward! Please let us know if you'd like to contribute in this area.
